As artists we all have our own unique ways of finding inspiration, whether that be for painting, creating music, writing, or any other art form. It's so interesting how various artists are inspired in so many ways, but for this article, I want to share with you 5 ways I get inspired & hopefully, you can integrate these methods with your creative process!

  1. Music

It's true! Music has always and forever will inspire me in so many ways as an artist, many artists including myself are extremely visual, and one way I use music for art, such as painting, is by closing my eyes and imagining a "scene" almost like a movie and whatever pops up in my brain I paint!

An easy way to inspire yourself in a similar way is by creating a playlist as I've done specifically for when I'm painting, if you'd like to check out my Spotify art playlist click down below!

Talking about music, here are 3 music documentaries y'all should definitely watch!

2. Creating Pinterest Boards

I have created various Pinterest boards throughout my years using this social media and I cannot stress enough how great it is for getting inspired! I have many boards to help me with art but some of my favorites to have which I recommend you to have as well are.

1. Art References: This board always comes in handy when I fill a page in my sketchbook & it's always nice not having to create something out of your imagination all the time!

2. Art Inspiration: While growing as an artist we always end up practicing, but with what goal in mind? I know having a style isn't always important to most artists but when it comes to wanting to sell your art it's necessary to have an art style/goal in mind to work towards. So I recommend you have this board specifically of artwork that you would have wanted to create yourself and then analyze these pins and break down what you see you need to work on to achieve the style you want.

3. Pose references: I know! I just said how you should have an art reference board, but having a separate board just focusing on pose references is so important as an artist since studying body anatomy is fundamental in wanting to grow as an artist.

If you want somewhere to start I have various art boards including the ones I have stated on my own Pinterest, so you can check it out!

3. Movies!

Films have always had a great impact on me personally but so have they been for so many others! Movies have inspired artists for generations and continue to inspire us, one way I use films to inspire my art is by studying the cinematography in my favorite films.

Studying the light source and colors helps me when it comes to painting and photography as well, hopefully, you can study your favorite films a bit deeper to help you get inspired!

To help you out with films that inspire your inner artist, I'll leave you 3 films that are great films cinematically but also with great storylines! Click the images to check them out!

4. Nature

God really is the best artist! This is exactly why I love to get inspiration from nature, it's always great to go outside and take a walk so why not take some pictures for future reference! Or just going on Google or Pinterest to see nature captured so beautifully through a camera lens can always inspire us artists, observing the texture qualities, colors, and shapes can always lead artists to create more beautiful art.

Take out your sketchbook and sketch!

5. Other Artists!

There are so many artist's around the world with different stories to tell, backgrounds, cultures, ideas and so much more! I love to learn about my fellow artists and can’t help but get inspired by them over and over again, every artist has a different style and story they want to get across through their art and I believe that is what makes art so beautiful.

With the help of social media we are now able to discover more artists than ever before, so go over to Instagram, Pinterest & Twitter to find new artists and support them, and get inspired to create!

Now get inspired!!!

I hope you can include some of the ways I get inspired as an artist in your creative process, & now to conclude... Create Something!!!
